The Remembering Film Screening and Ceremonial Gathering
May 18 & 19, 2019 · Tokyo, Japan · Facilitated by Liv Mokai Wheeler
Greetings! We hope that this message finds you well. We are writing to share with you about the elemental reverence「精霊への畏敬」Film Screening and Ceremonial Gathering. We gathered with our dear friends and new friends from Japan for a magnificently sacred gathering with beautiful, humble, reverential souls. We gathered for ceremony, a film screening, a panel discussion, medicinal music, and ritual.
Here is a short clip from the panel discussion where Liv Mokai shares about the Little People of the Earth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmi6WXmVLf8.
A message from Executive Producer Liv Mokai Wheeler:
It's incredible to imagine that this is the start of our summer international ritual tour. Kontomble let me know that the story will continue to reveal itself in each place that we gather with community, that each place will add to the story that is being told by the Otherworld. This story currently seems to be the story of Mother Earth.
I am so deeply touched by the Japanese community that gathered with us as well as by my friends that made the long journey here. As the Kontomble ritual unfolded yesterday, I realized that the presence of each of those souls was so important; everybody's medicine was truly needed for it to unfold in the way in which it did. And part of the ritual turned into a grief ritual for Fukushima. Even now, I find that I fall speechless. So I will leave it at that.
Messages from the community:
"This past weekend, I had the honor of being part of the Elemental Reverence 精霊への畏敬 with Liv Mokai Wheeler as a translator. Everything was soooo beautiful and magical. Liv, Sylvie, Emmy, Cliff, AshLE, Natalie, Christianne, Lindsey, Aislinn… every moment, I was in awe of their authenticity and beauty. The energy and transformation that they have brought upon Japan is huge. Their presense, the Kontomble ceremony, the amazing film "The Remembering” by Emmy Wu, the beautiful shrines by Lindsey and music by AshEL ...reconnected us Japanese to our ancient ancestors, spirits of nature, and our true authentic selves. I feel that it is truely a remembering and a new beginning for all of us. With deep appreciation and respect, thank you Liv and Kontomble for bringing us all together.” - Kae Miyazawa
"Last weekend, I attended to the Kontomble ceremony in Tokyo, which honor Mt. Fuji, whales, and Nipsey Hussle. And I came out from the ceremony with full of love and hope in my heart. It took so long to turn my eyes back to the country that I was born and raised. At one point, I was pretty hopeless at the future of Japan and shamed being Japanese. And then I connected with my soul family, who truly willing to honor Japan and the Earth, through the ceremony. I can see the beauty of the country and its culture again. Is there anything more precious than this?
I’d like to refer Barack Obama’s tribute for my new hero, Nipsey Hussle; 'While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets, and despair, Nipsey saw potential. He saw hope. He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going. His choice to invest in that community rather than ignore it ... is a legacy worthy of celebration.’ The ceremony surly showed me the hope for our future. Thank you, Liv. And thank you for all who shared the experience together. I feel so lucky to be part of the community.” - Kyoko Kato
It is very hard to put it into words.. It's like ayahuasca without the physical medicine. It's pure surrender and presence to spirit within ceremony. Liv, my beautiful Kontomble Voice Diviner, you listened and acted. You got us all to meet in Tokyo but it wasn't fully clear to any of us why us? Why Tokyo? As the ceremony started and we were trying to work through some opposing consciousness trying to stop the potent energy we were collectively carrying, it hit me: We were brought here to break the code. Each of us bringing a key, hence the variety of races present. Together we entered a space that I will never forget. So much cleansing, so much reinstating back to the natural. It reminded me of the vital importance of ceremony, presence and spirit. it also showed me that I have a new love in my life: Japan and its gracious, humble and beautiful inhabitants. I love you." -Christianne VanWijk
"Each art piece was activated as an altar. As Cliff Taylor opened the ceremony with his prayer, which is truly something to be experienced, addressing Wakan Tanka and Creator, I felt the ancient relationship and respect and love for humankind in this prayer and in his relationship to those he was praying to. And the message arose to me during his prayer.. "what are you in service to?" I feel that this ceremony and the work that Liv does is always in service to something bigger than just those of us in the room. It's always in greater service to sacred Mother Earth. That's the deep relationship I felt in Cliff's prayer. Ad that also can be seen and felt in the work of Nipsey Hussle who we honored in this ceremony for his work in loving and uplifting his community. It was such a beautiful experience to come together with community in Japan with the use of an amazing translator and to share this with others who I would normally not be able to communicate with or be in community with. Feeling very grateful to have experienced this. Thank you for inviting me and trusting me to make the art for this special event, Liv." -Lindsey Millen
